Do Cats Have Feelings

Cats show happiness through purring, kneading, relaxed body language and upbeat vocalizations.

Joy

Scared cats may hide, flatten ears, swell up, hiss, run away or be aggressive. Comfort a frightened cat.

Fear

Anxious cats may overgroom, urine mark, avoid litter box, or have dilated pupils. Try calming measures.

Anxiety

Cats display affection by rubbing, head-butting, circling feet, sleeping near you, grooming you, and purring.

Affection

After a loss, cats may search for the missing companion, vocalize more, sleep and eat less. Give them comfort.

Grief

Ignore new people or pets. Reassure your cat so they don't feel displaced.

Jealousy

Angry cats may bite, scratch, swat, arch their backs, thrash their tails, or act out. Give them space.
