Teaching Your Dog to Swim

Always supervise dogs in water. Use a dog life jacket for beginners. Don't force dogs unwilling to swim.

Safety First

Use high-value treats, favorite toys to encourage and reward entering the water. Make it a positive experience.

 Find Motivation

Begin in shallow water just covering your dog's paws and work up to swimming depth. Go slowly.

Start Shallow

Set your dog up for small successes. Toss treats and toys in water so dog enters on their own terms.

Build Confidence

Schedule regular short sessions to strengthen swimming skills. Don't overwhelm your dog early on.

Practice

A float suit with handle support provides security as your dog learns to swim.

Flotation Device

It takes time for dogs to become comfortable swimming. Let your dog progress at their own pace.
